Growing up I was never really slim but I was always involved in physical activity. I did Calisthenics from the age of 5 for 9 years and then went on to play netball for 6 years. When School finished and Uni started I stopped regular exercise but was good with my diet and worked in retail, which meant I was on my feet and still moving around so didn’t think about my weight. After my completion from Uni and a return trip from overseas I started an office job and by this stage my weight had started to sneak up due to poor diet and lack of exercise. I tried gym after gym but gave up after a couple of months due to lack of confidence and lack of accountability.

ONEETA

Body Mechanix Personal Training was recommended to me by my Physio to help with a troublesome shoulder as I wasn’t one to exercise on my own. I’ve been training twice a week with Mark for almost a year and look forward to my sessions as there is always something different and challenging for me to do.

I now have the motivation to exercise on my own which includes running, something I haven’t done for many years. As well as increasing my strength and fitness I’ve also lost 20kgs with the results week keeping me on track to reach my targets. I absolutely recommend Body Mechanix Personal Training to anyone needing a helping hand in achieving their health and fitness goals.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my training with the Body Mechanix team. It has been challenging but very rewarding, and my trainer has been responsive to my needs and kept me focused on my goals. The changes to my body in terms of strength, power and endurance have actually surprised me, and the training has definitely helped me improve my marathon time.... infact I took over 27 minutes of my time from the previous year, and felt quite strong even 'til the end.

I have always tried to remain fit and when work took over my life, travelling nationally and internationally there was little time for me. My weight climbed and my self-esteem declined. I have always believed life is about balance, and I had lost balance in my life.

I felt I needed to do something positive, to take control. So with great trepidation I left work and found my way to Body Mechanix. I was fairly sceptical at the beginning as I had attended many gyms over the years and it was always a slow process with little direction.

My journey with Body Mechanix has been a joy, I have lost almost 9kg and reshaped my body with 7cm off my waist and started to rebuild my self-esteem. I commenced in October 2008 and was immediately taken by a consistent professional approach; all exercises are focused on my capabilities and particular needs and in doing so they have helped me reach my goals in a very short time. My friends are surprised at how quickly my fitness levels have climbed and my body shape has changed.
Obviously, I have to work hard, but the partnership approach between the personal trainer Mark and myself has made reaching my goals that much easier.

For me it has been just what I needed!

I have been with Body Mechanix for almost a year now and have already managed to lose 9 kilos, it has been the best decision I have made.

I have had gym memberships in the past which has been a total waste of time and money as I could not keep myself motivated.

My personal trainer Matt has been able to keep me motivated since I started and helped me achieve my goals. His personality keeps me looking forward to my next training session, he’s also helped my confidence levels by encouraging me to participate in events that I wouldn’t even dreamt of doing, such as the Sri Chimnoy Fun Run.

I was looking at old photo albums recently. As I laid out the pictures from the past twenty years it became obvious that, like many women, I follow a cycle; fat Sally, thin Sally, fat Sally, thin Sally. In my case the cycle takes roughly five years. I lose weight, get fit, work gets busy, life takes over and before I know it I’m fat again.

It probably doesn’t help that I’ve never liked exercise. With no hand eye coordination and a sense of balance akin to that of a drunken navvy, sport has never been top of my “great ways to spend some free time” list.
I’m an intelligent woman though. I get that, if you want to be healthy, you have to eat sensibly and exercise consistently. Academic understanding is not the same as practical application though. That’s where Jen at Body Mechanix comes in. If you can’t do it yourself, bring in an expert!

Like many people I’ve dutiful signed up for gym memberships in the past (three to be precise), joined group training sessions (Boot Camp, Butt Camp, Body Fit and no doubt many other “B”s) and made any number of commitments with equally unenthusiastic girlfriends, all of which have faltered at the first cold morning or offer of breakfast instead.

So what makes Body Mechanix different? First of all it’s a regular commitment. Jen is there every Monday, Thursday and Saturday and she has never offered me breakfast instead!

Secondly the sessions are designed for me. I’m not an athlete; I’m a middle aged accountant. I have to leave the gym and get through the working week, somehow fitting in time for my family and hoping that I’ve managed to tick off most of the things on my “to do” list along the way. Training is all well and good but I need to be able to get out of bed the next morning. Jen structures each session to suit me. I work harder than I would if I went to the gym on my own but it’s definitely smarter and I recover faster.

There’s also all the intangible stuff. Jen is as excited by my achievements as I am. Running 1km, running 5km, running 8km, losing 1kg, losing 5kg, losing 20kg; Jen has supported me throughout the journey.

And it’s not just Jen. There’s a great team of people at Body Mechanix.

So, do I now enjoy exercise? No, it is still an evil necessity. But I’m 25kg lighter than I was when I started and a hell of a lot fitter. I’m also confident that I can sustain the level of fitness that I’ve achieved.

So, do I think I’ve broken the cycle? Probably. Ask me in five years’ time.


LAURA

Ever since I can remember, I have always struggled with my weight. My teens were spent on countless fad diets that never worked long term, and my exercise regime was poor.

In my early twenties, I began walking the 9km journey home from work. Because I had never really done much exercise before, a few kilos fell off quite quickly. I kept up the walk home from work but in terms of weight loss, I hit a plateau.

It was nearly two years ago that I decided to join Body Mechanix, and through training with Romney, I am now at a stage where I feel healthier and happier than ever before.

It did take me a while to get to this stage though. For about my first twelve months at Body Mechanix, despite Romney’s advice to the contrary, I had the mindset that because I was now exercising regularly and at a higher intensity, I didn’t need to be conscious of the foods I ate.

After about twelve months I realised that although I felt a lot fitter and healthier, I was still unhappy with my weight. That’s when I made the changes to my diet that was necessary. Once I did that, the drop in my weight became noticeable to everyone around me and I have since lost a total of 40cm and 8kilos.

Through Body Mechanix, I have learnt to understand and appreciate what it means to fuel your body with nutritious food. I have also learnt to actually enjoy exercise and training – something I never thought could happen to me. On average, I workout approximately 3-4 times per week and I still walk home from work 3-4 nights per week.


Vanessa

It has been almost twelve months since I started training at Body Mechanix personal training. I had been to many personal trainers in the past but none have helped me to achieve my goals like Melvin has.

My goal was to loose body fat. I wanted to look lean for my wedding. I only found a gradual reduction in the number on the scales, but it was the change in my body and the way my clothes fit that gave me the most satisfaction.
